Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
It happened to Bali and Maeng Da, now the same thing is happeneing to Sunda. SE Asia is well known for immitations and knock offs and now the Mitragyna market is being flooded with what some suppliers and vendors are calling Sunda. A vendor who is no longer in business wrote to me and said “Anything that doesn’t sell we just label Bali and it quickly sells out.” It seems that the hard work and quality control that made Sundanese so popular is now making vendors some easy money.
First…. What is Sunda? I made the name up to describe a particular grade that was harvested in a particular fassion that came from a particular area that was harvested during the four months following rainy season that ALSO tested higher than a specific % of alkaloid.
Here is the definition from Wiki: “The name Sunda derives from the Sanskrit – which means “goodness” or “possessing good quality”. The example is suvarna used to describe gold. Sunda is also another name for Hindu God Vishnu. In Sanskrit, the term Sundara or Sundari means “beautiful” or “excellence”. The term also means bright, light, purity, cleanness and white.
I get dozens of suppliers sending me leaf that they heap names on to get me to buy…..but first comes testing. 99% of the time these suppliers are sending the same cheap varities but with new names. I was amused when a supplier offered to send me Sunda but for a laugh I accepted and bought a small sample to test ( I don’t accept free product.) Testing is expensive, especially with the newer equipment that is now available so when the tests come back that this material is the same silly cheap leaf that anyone can find under a dozen names I move on. What surprised me was that two companies that sold me a box for testing have now approached other vendors, claiming that they were supplied HerbResearch with Sunda! Some of this material is of average quality for cheap leaf but some is so weak that it has sat for years in storage, not even being worth my time to extract.
So…. I had a batch harvested the specific way and time Sunda is harvested and it tests out to be excellent so for now I’ll put it back on the website. The two original suppliers now longer are in the business, both driven out by the government.
It would be easy for me to start offering just anything people sold me and making up names to sell it faster but then I’d loose the respect and trust of HerbResearch members. Herbresearch is the first documented website to offer Kali, Sumatra and Sunda. If it isn’t the original Maeng Da we won’t use the name.

Can’t believe theres no reviews on this! this is my personal favorite mitragyna (for the price). Right in front of the potent indo in that category. Aroma comes on slow and lasts a good while. Tried many vendors and think herb research will be my mainstay!

I was looking for something in a plain leaf that might compete with “maeng-da”and could never find anything. I found that something today, and it’s so smooth. Just when you think this isn’t working it creeps up on you and BANK!! you know right then and there you found something worth keeping. Ethen say’s he’s going to go a dollar more on this? He could go up $5.00 more and still have very pleased customers.

preferred this over the tranquil indo, haha, he tells us it’s the popular favorite, listen. Good advice. more workable for me than the indo. As in, can work on it. only rate it four stars because I haven’t tried any of the extracts or enhanced blends yet.

Very potent product. I usually use larger amounts, but I mixed about 1 level teaspoon with about a quarter teaspoon of GRE and it hit the sweet spot on the verge of the wobbles. Definitely try this if you are a Bali aficionado. Great product!

Very good! This Mitragyna gives a well balance of stimulation and calming effects. A friend had me try Mitragyna from another vendor and it had a very weak effect on me. I had him try Herb research Mitragyna and he was surprised of the difference. He didn’t know what he was missing. Now he’s a customer here. Always the best Mitragyna here!

Sunda has always been my favorite. The most notable characteristic for me is the ‘body’ feel that it has on me, a very pronounced feeling.
Some might consider hat to be not ‘clean’ by definition, but I find it to be very desirable. Many of the active alkaloids and other compounds make the balance vary by strain, just like other herbs, and this one is my favorite by far.
