Cola acuminata also known as Sterculia acuminata or Kola Nut can be found in the rain forests of central Africa, it is known for its popularity as a caffeine bearing plant it also sees widespread usage in Nigeria and other West African countries as part of traditional hospitality, cultural, social and spiritual ceremonies as well as ancient divination rituals.
The the Kola nut may contain approximately 2% catechine-caffeine (colanine) on average, which is believed to have a greater level of alkaloids (caffeine).
Kola also contains trace amounts of theobromine.
