Although pharmaceutical extracts of mucuna are used in treatment of Parkinson's disease, there is evidence that the whole seed extract is much more valuable for treatment of this disorder because of secondary compounds such as nicotine, substancia nigra specific antioxidants and others that are neglected by reductionistic medicine. N,N,-DMT, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, Bufotenine, serotonin, nicotine, two different beta carbolines as well as a large amount of the endorphin and adrenaline precursor L-Dopa have been found in this plant.
